The UK's tabloids are today full of stories of Anna's new project. It seems her patience at turning down several US television pilots in the hopes of landing a plum movie role have been successful.

‘Former Brookside teen pin-up Anna Friel is said to be thrilled at the opportunity to reprise the iconic screen role of Scarlett O’Hara’ in a lavish re-make of David O. Selznick’s epic movie of the US Civil War saga ‘Gone with the Wind’. The project is to be formally announced in London this evening by world leaders at the G20 summit as part of ambitious plans to stimulate the global economic recovery. All the G20 countries will each allocate $10 million (about £7 million) to fund the film and US President Barack Obama is said to be ‘very impressed’ with a revised script that brings more prominence to the roles of black characters in the film, showing them to be a steadying and dignified influence in turbulent times – very much how he sees himself in this current economic crisis. The funding is seen as a vital life line for the ailing world cinema industry.
US stars Will Smith and Denzil Washington are lined up for key parts and it is rumoured that President Obama is even contemplating a short cameo role in the film to further boost takings. He will make an announcement tonight during an austere twenty-five course dinner at the summit, cooked specially by mouthy TV gourmet Gordon Ramsey.
UK Premier Gordon Brown is rumoured to have asked to join President Obama in the film, but was persuaded against this by Labour Party spin doctors, who advised him there was no suitable character for him in the script. It was later denied that Mr Brown had tried to convince the film’s writers to insert a role of a one-eyed Scottish banker who had spent 10 years bringing the world to the edge of economic disaster. Producers said such a character might deter cinema-goers and would frighten small children as well as intelligent adults.
Anna Friel talked exclusively to our reporter at her favourite juice bar in Los Angeles where she now lives with her ‘Naked’ partner David Thewlis. ‘This is my big film break and I’m really excited at the prospect of wearing some lovely gowns and gliding elegantly down those sweeping staircases. I just hope I don’t trip myself up and land at a heap at the bottom! Still, if I do at least Gerard or Lee will be there to catch me, or maybe even President Obama!’ Friel recently expressed her admiration for President Obama on a popular BBC chat show and she added that she is ‘honoured’ that he will be appearing in the movie and she hoped they would be spending some screen time together. ‘Apart from being such a wonderful leader, he’s an incredibly sexy guy,’ she confided to our astonished reporter. Was that a little blush, there, Anna?
Gerard Butler, star of ‘300’ will play the role of Brett made so famous in the original movie by Clark Gable. Friel and Butler starred together in the best-forgotten 2003 movie ‘Timeline’. Friel was coy about whether she and Butler would try and maintain an on-screen kiss for longer than the seven second snog of the original film. ‘You’ll just have to wait and see,’ said Friel with a cheeky grin. Anna is still remembered for her lingering lesbian kiss on Channel 4’s Brookside soap which caused uproar when it was screened pre-watershed in the 1990s.
Lee Pace, Friel’s co-star in the recently cancelled, quirky US comedy ‘Pushing Daisies’ will play Ashley and Emma Watson from Harry Potter will complete a quartet of stars in the role of Melanie. Emma is said to be ‘delighted to be working with such wonderful co-stars’ and ‘looking forward immensely to working with a script that will allow me to explore more adult emotions.’
The new production is due to start filming in June on location in some of the States in US that have been worst-hit by the economic crisis. It is expected to hit screens in the US in October 2010 and in the UK before Christmas.’
Exciting stuff! I can’t wait. Have a great day. ;D ;D ;D
