I guess like me you've all got your alerts set up to let you know of any Anna news. Anyway, today this link arrived in my inbox - comingsoon.net:80/news/tvnews.php?id=19069In case you don't trust it, or it fails, here's the text: Kirstin Chenoweth is Pushing Daisies Source: Variety February 26, 2007 Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth has signed on to star in the ABC pilot "Pushing Daisies," reports Variety. The comedic drama revolves around a man who falls in love with a deceased woman after he figures out how to bring the dead back to life. Should "Pushing Daisies" be ordered to series, it would be Chenoweth's first regular series role since playing Annabeth Schott on "The West Wing." "Pushing Daisies" comes from Warner Bros. TV. Bryan Fuller, Dan Jinks, Bruce Cohen and Barry Sonnenfeld (who's also directing) are executive producers. Lee Pace, Anna Friel and Chi McBride are also set to star. I've never heard of any of these people, except Anna of course, though I've heard of 'The West Wing' but never seen it. Does anyone know any more about Anna's proposed co-stars - the news story suggests the leading lady is famous, but she's not in my house! I suppose Anna will be over the pond again for a while filming this. I do hope she doesn't completely lose her northern lass accent!

Angel Makers actually sounds quite promising to me. Makes a change from the normal light-weight romcom stuff Anna's been doing lately. Obviously with Helen just having received a top Oscar it's sure to get a lot of publicity, and that can only be good for Anna - and us, of course.
I hope some of Helen's acting craft and skills rub off on Anna, it would be a shame if she was perceived to be outclassed in such a high profile work. Let's hope the script gives our girl a decent chance to show what she can do!

More news on this.....from SciFi Wire
Fuller Talks Pushing Daisies
Bryan Fuller, creator of ABC's supernatural comedy/drama pilot Pushing Daisies, revealed to SCI FI Wire details about the show, which is currently filming. "It's about a pie maker who can touch dead things and bring them back to life," Fuller (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls) said in an interview at Wizard World in Los Angeles on March 17. "He touches dead fruit, and he puts them in his pies, and he has the best pies in all the land. ... The rules of the show is: He touches a dead person once, and they come back to life, and then if he touches them a second time, they go back to being dead, and he can never bring them back. And he touches a dead girl, falls in love with her and can't ever touch her again. So it's a romantic comedy."
Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) is directing the pilot, which is narrated by Jim Dale, the narrator of the Harry Potter audio books, Fuller said. "He narrates it like it's very much a fairy tale," he added. "And it's a lot of fun. We're halfway through filming right now."
Fuller, who is currently a writer for NBC's Heroes, acknowledged that the show fits his obsession with death. "When I was a kid, my happiest memories were going to funerals, because that's when I got to see, like, the extended family and the cousins," Fuller said. "And I could actually talk about movies and television and things that I was obsessed about. The things that my immediate family didn't want to hear. So they were always very happy occasions. ... And also I think the whole death thing—talking about or examining death—is a really good way to examine life."
The show will star Lee Pace, who also starred in Fuller's short-lived Wonderfalls. Like that show, Pushing Daisies is "very quirky and weird," Fuller said. "It's a very heightened reality." The hourlong show will also star Anna Friel, Kristin Chenoweth, Chi McBride, Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Green. ABC will make a decision on whether to pick up Pushing Daisies in April or May.

Some more info including Anna's character name... PUSHING DAISIES (ABC) DEVELOPMENT HISTORY: STATUS: currently in development (2007-2008 season) DEVELOPMENT STAGE: ordered to pilot DESCRIPTION: (from ABC's press release) Once upon a time, director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men In Black, Get Shorty, The Addams Family) and writer-producer Bryan Fuller ("Heroes," "Wonderfalls," "Dead Like Me") created an unprecedented blend of romance, crime procedural and high-concept fantasy. It is a love story about a young man with a very special gift...the ability to return someone dead briefly back to life with just a simple touch. But the tale gets complicated, as all tales do, when he saves his childhood sweetheart and she miraculously stays alive. Each week, she encourages him to use his powers to solve mysteries and help others. Life would be perfect, except for one cruel twist: if Ned ever touches her again, she'll lose the life he gave her, for good this time. There's always a catch... Golden Globe(R) nominee Lee Pace (The Good Shepherd, "Soldier's Girl"), Chi McBride ("The Nine," "Boston Public"), Golden Globe(R) nominee Swoosie Kurtz ("Huff," "Sisters") and Tony Award winner Kristen Chenoweth ("The West Wing," Broadway's Wicked) star in a fairytale in the spirit of Amelie, Stranger than Fiction, and Chocolat. Also received a longer pilot episode synopsis...
PUSHING DAISIES (ABC) -
Lee Pace ("The Good Shepherd") has been cast in the lead role of the drama pilot, a romantic high-concept procedural about a man (Pace) who can touch the dead and bring them back to life. His character, Ned, is further detailed in the casting notice as follows: "Late 20s-Mid 30s, handsome and awkward, good-natured but self-contained. Ned is a professional pie maker who owns his own store, The Pie Hole. Ned has an unusual gift: he can touch a dead person (or animal) and have them come back to life, but if they live longer than one minute someone else, usually in close proximity, will die; also, if he touches them a second time, they'll die again, presumably this time for good. Ned discovered this gift and its drawbacks when he was 9 and his mother died while baking a fabulous pie, only to come back to life with his touch--only to die again when she kissed him good night. As a result, Ned is a withdrawn young man who loves pies and tries to avoid human contact, for fear someone else he loves will die. Ned has a side business with a private investigator, Emerson Cod, in which Ned brings murder victims back to life, finds out who killed them, then makes them die again and uses the knowledge, with Emerson, to collect rewards. The system works pretty well until Ned uses it to bring to life Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, the girl he's loved since childhood who was murdered on a cruise ship; unable to consign Chuck back to death, Ned lets her live, winds up telling her his secret, and finds that his life is about to become complicated."

I've heard that ABC have commissioned 13 episodes for this Autumn and Anna will be in the series. See this link: www.buddytv.com:80/articles/pushing-daisies/abcs-pushing-daisies-meet-the-6556.aspxIf you click on the head shot of Anna in the cast profiles on the left you get a nice little photo of our girl looking very pretty in a red and white dress The downside is that I guess she'll be spending the summer in US filming I hope we get to see this series in the UK eventually - not like 'The Jury' which seems to have been consigned to oblivion

Nice find davec - looks like its filmed from a TV ad (tinny high treble sound...) ;D Looks like it'll be pretty decent (the pie theme reminds me of Twin peaks!! . although the theme is so far removed from that you cant compare really) - coming from Barry Sonnenfeld, it cant be all bad !! Hope its picked up by Sky, C5 or ABC1.... ;D

Seems that ITV has picked up 'Pushing Daisies' and will screen it on ITV1. (A real departure for this network.) Must admit to a little disappointment. To me ITV is Champions League football and nothing else really. Still, who knows how 'P.D.' will fare. Just hope it isn't given the 'treatment' if it doesn't become an immediate hit. ITV is so ratings orientated and 'quirky drama' is not exactly their bag.

Don't really know what to make of the 'P.D.' trailer. Dave mentions it perhaps being like 'Amelie' (which I liked despite myself) or 'Pleasantville' (which I loathed). Can handle 'quirky' as long as it is the right sort of 'quirky'. As with most things if the script is good it will get away with all but the most preposterous plotlines and concepts, and there are some good names attached to the show. Good to hear Anna still using that U.S. accent she first road tested in 'Sunset Strip'. Not too bad to my ears, though I'm sure any American would be able to pick holes. The show certainly looks good; the Americans seem to have mastered the visual style of modern TV much better than we have over here. (Oh, for the days when their stuff was wall to wall drekk.) Given that US TV is in much better shape than ours, it is not surprising that Anna should be working over there. If this show plays well, it would be a very big deal for her. Maybe even I would have to reign in my pessimism. But hey, why change the habit of many years. We've seen many a false dawn before.

If you haven't encountered it yet there is a fantastically positive review of the pilot episode of 'P.D.' at film.com. 'Glowing' doesn't do it justice. (Suspect the writer 'Jayce' must be an ABC or Warner employee.)
