Fonda the Barbarella look then, Miss Friel? Anna pays tribute to Sixties star in sexy bodysuit
She never looked like this in Brookside. This is Anna Friel, lounging provocatively in high heels, a figure-hugging bodysuit –and jewels worth more than £2million.
With bouffant hair and a sultry pose, the 32-year-old actress bore more than a passing resemblance to Jane Fonda’s sexy title character in 1968 sci-fi hit Barbarella.
Miss Friel struck her glamorous pose as she prepares for her latest project, the first stage production of Breakfast At Tiffany’s.
The Lancashire-born star will transform herself into Holly Golightly, played memorably by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film of the novel.
And the character, who famously lusts after the jewellery in Tiffany's department store in New York, would certainly be proud of this photoshoot for Vanity Fair magazine.
Miss Friel wears four pearl, diamond and white gold necklaces by master jeweller David Morris, topped off with pearl and diamond-encrusted earrings and rings by Chanel.
The whole assortment is worth an eye-watering £2.6 million.
Miss Friel will play Holly, who she calls the 'bad little good girl', at London's Theatre Royal Haymarket from September 9.
'My Holly will have a lot more rough edges than Audrey’s', she said earlier this year.
'It’s a massive, massive challenge and I’m doing an hour’s work every day to get my voice strong and working on the correct accent', she said.
And while she is practicing the accent, she purposely has not re-watched the film as she does not want to copy Hepburn's style.
'I will be playing Holly from the book, which is set in the Forties', she added.
'One of the scary things at first for me was thinking ''Gosh! People will assume they’re coming to see an Audrey Hepburn impression" and that won’t be happening.
'The film was set in 1960, so straight away we’re going to look different in terms of clothes and hairstyle.'
The play, which also stars American Joseph Cross, is adapted by Samuel Adamson and opens on September 9.
It will contain the Academy-Award winning song Moon River, for which Friel has taken singing and guitar lessons.
Now living in LA with her actor husband David Thewlis and their daughter, Anna is also filming two movies - The Details opposite James McAvoy and London Boulevard with Colin Farrell.
The August issue of Vanity Fair is on news stands now.
