Vince does a power of good

NICE to know how the other half give -- even in recessionary times. Last Thursday Vince Power hosted his annual Berkeley Square Ball in aid of The Prince's Trust in London. And I am happy to say that my favourite Irish man in London (when Richard Corrigan ceases to scramble egos in the kitchen, I'll warm to him again) doesn't do Z-list celebs, clearly.
The Waterford legend -- well, the queen of England did knight him -- had popstar Gwen Stefani and her rockstar hubby Gavin Rossdale, comedian Russell Brand, actress Anna Friel and her husband David Thewlis at his table. Nor does Vince spare the expense. Nobu did the reception; Giorgio Locatelli, Britain's leading Michelin-starred Italian chef, supplied the food; and the goody bags were created courtesy of Aspinal of London.
A friend of Vince's over from Waterford for the evening, won the £20,000 diamond ring raffle prize for his daughter. Gwen Stefani led the dancing with Anna Friel and English beauties Elinor Maeve Witchard and Gemma Philips following.
All of Vince's large brood (Maurice, Sharon, Patrick, Evie, Nell and Niall) was present. Naturally they all went to Vince's Piccadilly club, Pigalle, afterwards to continue the celebrations until 4am.
The following day in Dublin that other legend of the night, Michael Wright, threw a charity lunch in the Anglers Rest in the Strawberry Beds in aid of Pieta House (an organisation dedicated to preventing suicide and self-harm in Ireland). Michael recently lost one of his closest friends to suicide and was also friendly with the late, great Patrick Rocca. Patrick's sister-in-law, Teresa Rocca, was at the lunch on Friday as was RTE's Frank McNamara and wife Teresa Lowe, model Sara Kavanagh and Pamela Flood. "We raised over €6,000 in cash as well as securing almost 100 direct-debit donations whereby people agreed to donate a certain amount for a year. Pieta House were over the moon," one of the day's organisers Elaine Roddy told me. "Michael Wright provided the venue and all the food for free in support of the cause."
I've said it before. The Wright man in the right place.
