Former Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel is making her return to TV by starring in a new three-part drama for ITV. The 34-year-old actress will play the lead role in the new ITV drama, What to do When Someone Dies, which is based on the novel by Nicci Gerrard and Sean French. Friel, who lives in Los Angeles with partner David Thewlis and daughter Gracie, will play the role of Ellie Manning - a grieving woman whose husband is killed in a car crash with a mystery woman sitting in the passenger seat of his car. The three parts will follow her battle to find out the truth about the woman. ITV's executive producer Sally Head said: "Newly widowed Ellie's journey of bereavement and absolute determination to prove that the woman who died beside her husband was not his lover will prove stirring and compelling stuff. "This is a script full of heart that will make you laugh and cry - a memorable and modern tale of enduring love." Friel can soon be seen starring in new movie London Boulevard with Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell. Source | Music Rooms

An update on this project: WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMEONE DIES – NEW SERIES A new three part series based on the novel from writing duo Nicci Gerrard and Sean French and written by acclaimed theatre writer Charlotte Jones (Humble Boy, The Dark, The Woman in White). Ellie Manning (Anna Friel), a wife who is devastated to learn her husband died in a horrific car accident with a mystery woman in the passenger seat. Stricken with grief and refusing to believe her husband was having an affair, Ellie sets out to find the truth of who the mystery woman is, and why she was in the car, in this taut and emotional thriller. School teacher Ellie Manning and her husband Greg live in Manchester and are trying for a baby. One evening Greg doesn't return home from work and when the police knock on the door, Ellie is horrified to learn he has been killed in a terrible car accident. The police tell Ellie that Greg wasn't alone, a woman sitting in the passenger seat was also killed. A tormented Ellie begins to question, who is the mystery woman? Was Greg having a secret affair? From www.tv.com/upcoming-shows-on-itv1/webnews/273790.htmlI'm not sure this will be quite my cup of tea either, but with this and Anna the Sexy Pirate Queen (oops, sorry 'Neverland') to look forward in 2011, at least Anna will grace our TV screens over the coming year
