Oh, and you are going to tell me that post-production delays are a good sign? Next thing you'll be telling us that Anna is booking her seat for next years Oscars.

Oh, and you are going to tell me that production delays are a good sign? Next thing you'll be telling us that Anna is booking her seat for next years Oscars. Certainly not - but I won't be judging Anna's performance in it or , for that matter actually, the film's performance if they are insisting on making sure sound dubbing/synch or effects are what they want them to be. It's a bit hard to read anything into this as some great films were delayed on release due to technical aspects, and again, there have been some stinkers... As for the Oscars - well we all live in hope! Whether or not "Bathory" creates a big enough noise to creep into reckoning for "Best Foreign Film" (or whatever the title is they give it now) is debateable - probably on reckoning, it won't get there - but stranger things have happened... My guy feeling is that the better bet would be for the Emmy's for PD....

Love those optimism pills you are on Dave! I'll have a little wager that 'Bathory' is a dog, and one with fleas too.

LOL - well if by optimism you mean giving it a chance before I see it or even before it's released, then I'll wear that label proudly... but I do still reserve the right to go completely back on what I say and call it names if it does sucketh the big 1 it's all subjective anyway....

Do realise you are in a slightly more delicate position than the rest of us, Dave. I'm quite happy I can play loose cannon and often wonder just what the hell I'm doing here anyway when all faith has gone. I'm not really prejudging 'Bathory'. (If I ever get to see it will view with a very open mind.) Just giving vent to a gut-feeling.

Premiere of big-budget Bathory film postponed I know it's old news but it proves my conspiracy theory as clearly as Anna's lovely green eyes The ABC Mafia have promised Mr Jakubisko a horse's head bed partner if he premieres his film while 'Pushing Daisies' is trying to get established in the States and see off the other mob's torturous 'Deal or No Deal'. Our ABC guardians are desperately protecting the 'perky, quirky, fresh as a living daisy' image of their young female lead and don't want any nasty images surfacing of that rogue Caravaggio scrawling rude drawings on her naked flesh after a sinful embrace. Even worse, they don't want us to see their sweet, pure starlet wielding a plastic sabre and cutting off some poor miserable wretch's head with a mad, evil grin on her pretty face ;D As for me, I'd rather watch 'Bathory' any day than 'PD'. If 'Daisies' flops but Anna retains her rave reviews, maybe they could re-cut 'Bathory' into a mini-series for HBO?

Premiere of big-budget Bathory film postponed I know it's old news but it proves my conspiracy theory as clearly as Anna's lovely green eyes Your tongue might well be firmly in your cheek, but, as I've said before, this is utter madness, davec. ;D I love a conspiracy theory as much as the next paranoid fruitcake, but there is a simple explanation for the delays. 'Bathory' is probably a steaming pile and has suffered serious technical problems to boot. A is just not important enough to have corporate types doing behind the scenes deals to protect her from adverse exposure. To maintain any pretence that ABC/Warner could, or would, have the film canned just to save A's reputation is crazy. Like the HBO line, though suspect 'Bathory' wouldn't be sweary enough for them. If things do take off for A on the back of 'P.D.' I just hope she gets decent management and doesn't end up miscast and/or in the sort of ropey rubbish that has blighted her career up to now.

With Christmas over and the New Year just around the corner I was dreamily thinking of a winter break and I was seriously considering the Czech or Slovak Republic to catch the premiere of 'Bathory'. After all, with 'Pushing Daisies' stalled and Anna complaining about the heat in LA, what could be better for her than to appear at the premiere and let me photograph her in the snow of Prague or Bratislava, and maybe offer her a warming mug of hot Bovril? On checking the date I find that unfortunately the premiere has been put back yet again - the film will now open to ecstatic audiences at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in July (according to the film's official site). From my memory Karlovy Vary is a small historical town in Western Czech Republic, and I think I've heard of its film festival somewhere. Oh well, by July 'Pushing Daisies' will either be filming its second season or sunk without trace, and Anna will probably be in one or two UK cinemas playing Santiago's gold-digging ex-wife with four kids in 'Goal 3', and I'll be contemplating a summer with no meaningful footie after the Croatia debacle. Maybe Karlovy Vary in July won't be quite so bad then, but I think on reflection I'd rather they just cut their losses on let the film slink out shamefully on DVD with none of the nudity left on the cutting room floor Ho hum, so much for Jakubisko‘s masterpiece

Come on guys, don't be so pessimistic! There are a lot of trouble with this, but we shouldn't write off the film before watching... Ok, it won't be a world famous-masterpiese, but I still belive It'll gain more recognition for Anna in Europe. You know, in Central Europe she's still best known for her role in Timeline (not the best movie...) and for being the "girlfriend of that lanky guy in the Harry Potter films". By the way, Karlovy Vary must be a nice place, it was one of the most popular spa- and holiday resorts in Eurpe in the 19th century (It's german name, Karlsbad might be more familiar to you - every famous writer, poet, composer etc. visited the place) If I knew for sure Anna'll be there at the film festival, I'd think about a little trip... Though I wonder about the hungarian premiere, because it's still said to be in march

If even you have lost faith, Dave...... Time to move on from this. There have been enough duff movies in the past so I'm sure everybody knows the drill by now. A got paid for this (I hope) and though she is sure to be 'disappointed', reckon she will have put it well behind her. Hey, there is a Golden Globe up for grabs elsewhere! A GG nomination is going to lead to opportunities and hopefully she won't have to look at roles in dodgy rubbish like 'Bathory' for a good while. (But hey, what do I know, another 'Timeline' is probably just around the corner.)

Hmmm not quite lost faith joe.... from what I've seen and heard of the film - it's v v good .
.....But the release/distribution looks to be perplexing....I would have thought a winter/early spring release would have been the best time to go for it, not a summer release !!

OK, maybe I have pre-judged 'Bathory' unfairly. But when a film has its release date put back several times and is said to have been dogged by 'technical problems' what is a cynical observer supposed to think? Yes, the trailers and promo pics look decent, but what have you heard of the film to make you claim 'v v good' status, Dave? Having planned to spend plenty of money on the film (by eastern European standards) would have thought they might have got solid distribution deals in place before shooting began.
The always unreliable Imdb does have 'Bathory' premiering in Hungary in March, months before anywhere else. Odd. Suppose the Karlovy Vary festival screening can have davec fantasizing about a July of Czech beer and spa baths.....

Suppose the Karlovy Vary festival screening can have davec fantasizing about a July of Czech beer and spa baths..... Yup, been there, done that! Well, the beer rather than the baths. Unfortunately with the Czech Republic (and Slovak) now more the haunt of UK stags and hens the price of beer has gone up and the quality down. But I'm sure I could be persuaded to give it another go, especially if Anna is there in her usual 'Film Festival' mode - remember the dresses she almost wore at Cannes (1997) and Venice (2001) Maybe Karlovy Vary (2008) could top even those triumphs of minimalist, highly tasteful fashion ;D
