Interesting....VERY interesting Thanks very much for that. Looks like a total mish-mash of a film - get it out on DVD now! (please) ;D - or better still put it on ITV this Saturday straight after Pushing Daisies (bound to get the best possible ratings) ;D

Thank you for posting this link!
It practically showed the entire film 0_0 , are they still planning to release this film sometime in the future? Or was it only showed in select cities?

Yes, it's a mixture of a trailer and a preview! I hope the narrative flow of the movie is better though, as I got totally lost as to what was supposed to be going on. It didn't help that I could hardly understand the dialog (not even Anna's lines ) There seems to be some more confusion over release dates. I can't see any mention now on the official movie website of the Karlovy Vary Festival premiere - though my Czech & Slovak language skills are not great - but it does show a release date of 10 July in Czech Republic and Slovenia. If it does get a cinema release my guess it will be Eastern Europe only with a quick blast on their local TV (Ceska Televize are main backers) followed by DVD. I wonder what Anna REALLY thinks of the movie She's not mentioned it in any of the recent interviews.

I was a tad bit confused as well. It also looks as if the editing & special effects weren't completely finished in the trailer, so perhaps the filmmakers are still working on it? Then again, it is scheduled for release dates in July & I'm not sure if it's already been screened as 'fully completed' elsewhere.
I noticed that too, also have heard nothing about the Goal trilogy either. Bathory is a BIG role for Anna, maybe when it gains a bit more recognition & gets closer to more frequent release dates she'll begin to bring it up more often or journalist will find out about it & bring it up during interviews.

At the moment I'm not fully aware of what is happening to Bathory.....I've just heard the July premiere date, and possibly limited release in UK later on in 2008....if I manage to get a preview copy etc. I will make a post.... As far as I know, Anna hasn't shot any recent scenes for Goal 3 - whether they use some scenes filmed during Goal 2 , I've not heard as yet.... (tbh, I'm not even sure it will get finished.... )

Well at least someone's got to see it ;D Anna was 'incredible' of all accounts, but I'd like to get the chance to see for myself, please Talk about a dog with a new bone, davec. Are you a keen student of late-Medieval Eastern European history? ;D Can't think of any other reason why you are so eager to see this. The whole thing fills me with dread. (See C4 have rolled out 'The Land Girls' as their 'womens alternative' in opposition to the screening of the Euro2008 final on BBC1. The film seems to have a bit of a fanbase, just going on Ebay prices for DVDs and other 'clues'. Yet another group of 'Anna fans' who don't come on these boards, I suppose.)

I'll give you a choice of three reasons for my obsession - 1. I studied this period at school and I'm really interested in how they portray the socio-economic and political tensions of the time 2. I'm curious to see how Anna does with such a challenging role so far removed from her own persona and such a contrast to her most popular and more acclaimed roles to date - e.g. Brookie, Land Girls, Me Without You and Pushing Daisies 3. I want to see her in and out of that bath tub to see how she's shaping up post-Gracie Anyway, I'm away for a week now, so you won't have to put up with my obsession until I return, hopefully to find bootleg DVDs all over Ebay

As we speak Bathory seems to be winding up to its premiere in Prague (might have even happened, can't read Czech), with the film set for a full release in Czech and Slovak cinemas. (Anna dubbed into Czech?) Had to be given a release over there given how much it cost (in Czech/Slovak terms) and given its prominence on the Eastern European cinema scene. Now, whether it ever appears on our screens..... I'm sure your E. European contacts could fix you up with a pirate copy, davec, if you are really that anxious to view the 'bathtub scene'.

I see that 'Bathory' was shown yesterday at Karlovy Vary and Jakubisko was given an award for his contribution to world cinema - I must have missed that . Anyway, there's not been a great clamour on the 'net since the film showed, even though it's reported to be 140 minutes long! Never mind the quality...... feel the length......as they say in Slovakia.....and elsewhere. Good job Mr J got his award before they showed the film, me-thinks ;D At least this cultural epic is finally seeing the light of day With the right marketing (well any marketing would help) it could become an edgy cult classic antidote to the sugary sweetness of 'Daisies' don't you think? Oh, and as a bonus here's a link to a poster from the movie that's new to me i191.photobucket.com/albums/z61/BlondeNadia47/annaposter.png

Notice the Karlovy Vary site had the film scheduled... www.kviff.com/en/news-live/2008-07-05/999-todays-biggest-event-bathory/Today’s biggest event - Bathory Today’s biggest event is the world premiere of Juraj Jakubisko’s Bathory at 5 p.m. in the Thermal cinema. The delegation will arrive to the red carpet in limousine. The premiere will also include jugglers and acrobats, as well as leading actress Anna Friel via video feed.

Yes...... just for a change it's me banging on about 'Bathory' again I'm determined to talk this film into a worldwide release of some kind Here's a decent, short review from a reasonably reputable source, 'Vanity Fair' of the recent Karlovy Vary Festival showing: 'Bathory Czech Republic/Slovak Republic/UK/Hungary One of the festival’s most highly anticipated films was Juraj Jakubisko’s Bathory, a defense of the “Blood Countess,” a 16th century Hungarian noble woman who was said to have murdered hundreds of peasant girls, and then bathed in their blood to retain her eternal youth. (Jakubisko ascribes her reputation to rumor mongering, fueled by a divided church, feudal lords, and Hapsburgs, all of whom stood to profit from her downfall.) Although it’s graced with some fine performances, especially from Anna Friel, Bathory is a clumsy telling of a fascinating tale that amalgamates just about every movie genre: historical epic, surrealist fantasy, period drama, fable, and comedy. If this sounds like a few too many ingredients, it is (there is also a witch, magic, and an affair with Carravagio). Despite these atrocities, the movie somehow finds a way to entertain, and the sins of both the film and the countess are quickly forgiven.'
