Anna's joined the project Land of the Lost as per The Hollywood Reporter. "Land of the Lost" has landed a female lead, Anna Friel, to star opposite Will Ferrell in Brad Silberling's adventure fantasy for Universal Pictures. In this feature adaptation of Sid and Marty Krofft's 1970s live-action kids show, the "Pushing Daisies" star will play the love interest of Ferrell, a disgraced paleontologist who finds himself in a strange prehistoric world. The Kroffts and Jimmy Miller will produce from a prestrike screenplay by Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas. Julie Wixson-Darmody is executive producer. Universal's Peter Cramer and Eric Baiers are overseeing the project. Principal photography begins next month. Friel is repped by UTA, Abi Harris of London-based Finch & Partners and attorneys Sam Fisher and PJ Shapiro. Friel, nominated for a Golden Globe for "Daisies," will next appear in "Goal! III."

Never heard of it, there's so many little desert towns/stops in CA it's hard to remember all of the names but I don't remember 'Metler Valley'. The set looks interesting btw .

Will Anna be doing an American accent in this too? In the small 'Observer Film Quarterly May 2008' piece, Anna says she is playing Ferrell's 'assistant from Cambridge University'. This would seem to point to her doing an English accent, though of course there are plenty of Americans at Oxbridge colleges. She can pull off an effective, posh-ish, Southern English voice. Only hope she is not doing the film in Rochdalese. (For our Northern English correspondents, I have nothing against the flat vowel. It is just that I think using her 'own' voice stops her from fully concentrating on her character and performance.)

I would actually prefer A's normal accent... although I have to admit I don't think it will be... I just hope Silberling hasnt asked for "KK in Atonement but more modern" (if you can possibly comprehend what that may be like... ). When I usually hear "Cambridge assistant"... I get a queasy feeling thinking it will be played rather stereotypically.... I just hope not

Seems to me that the only time she has done this post-Brookside was in 'Fields of Gold'. And that really worked.... Americans have a very odd grasp on English/British accents. Suspect many still imagine that a modern-day, female, Cambridge academic would sound like some Edwardian bluestocking. As you say, think the best we can hope for is that Anna doesn't get forced into essaying some Knightleyesque monstrosity and does a neutral Home Counties type voice, e.g. like she did in 'Me Without You'. Still, I have very low expectations of this whole affair so if the worst happens it won't surprise me in the slightest. (As an aside, although quite a few American actors have pulled off very impressive neutral English accents, how many have ever successfully carried off a regional accent? We've heard plenty of awful Scottish or Irish accents, but just imagine an American actor doing Bristolian, Brummie or Scouse? ;D)

LOL joe, I'd call ya over-dramatic writing a film off on the basis of someone using their own accent !! Good find emmak, I missed that GMTV interview and forgot to check YouTube for it appearing.... have a bonus cookie for that find !! It's at this link in case anyone wants to watch it.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGcKBxIB8AM

I must confess: I'm not waiting for any wonders coming from a movie with Will Ferrell. The only flick I though he was actually berable in was "Stranger Than Fiction". I wish Anna could play opposite Steve Carell. Now that would give the movie a whole new better vibe... Hopefully she won't be another stereotyped character, like most characters Ferrell- toned- flicks are portrayed! But, not all is lost in "The Land of the Lost", for Anna is a terrific actress ;D and Brad Silberling is a competent director (take "Moonlight Mile" for instance). Fingers Crossed!
